Critical minerals: Brazil needs to go beyond the discovery of deposits

The advancement of critical minerals in Brazil represents an opportunity that goes far beyond the discovery of deposits and the establishment of mines. To transform our geological potential into economic development, we need to integrate mineral research, processing, technology, infrastructure, financing, and industry.

With the implementation of the National Policy on Critical and Strategic Minerals (PNMCE), the country has the opportunity to build supply chains capable of generating greater added value, innovation, and specialized jobs.

As the head of mineral project development at Ore Minerals in Paraná and Santa Catarina, I closely monitor the challenges and opportunities in this market. Geological research is the starting point, but the true economic potential depends on collaboration among companies, universities, technology centers, investors, and government agencies.

Brazil does not necessarily need to concentrate all stages of the production chain within its borders. Above all, it needs to create the conditions to compete effectively in those areas where it has strategic advantages.

The Role of Ore Minerals

Ore Minerals is developing a portfolio of rare earth and lithium projects covering more than 30,000 hectares. Its most advanced project, Rio Negro (PR), is scheduled to begin pilot production in 2028 and has the potential to supply raw materials to the international rare earth supply chain. The portfolio also includes the Campo Alegre (SC) and Palermo (PR) projects.

I recently participated in the 2026 Brazil-China International Mission, organized by the Ministry of Mines and Energy and ApexBrasil, to present the Rio Negro Project to potential international partners.

Our goal is to contribute to a more diversified supply chain for critical minerals by linking Brazil’s mineral potential to the world’s technological and industrial demands.

Brazil's challenge is not only to discover its mineral resources, but to transform them into development, technology, and competitiveness.
